YUKIO KOBAYASHI

Yukio Kobayashi has primarily focused on intellectual property related matters during his many years of practice as a patent/trademark attorney and has handled over 300 IP litigations, including infringement and revocation trial decisions.

Mr. Kobayashi has received numerous requests for lectures and training from the Japan Patent Attorneys Association and various corporate IP departments. He has also given presentations in foreign countries such as Korea, Germany, France, and the UK in recent years and is always warmly received.

Mr. Kobayashi aims to ensure that dedicated communication and speed of work, along with his policy of “one meeting instead of 100 emails” and “one phone call instead of 10 emails,” allows him to maximize time with clients.

Mr. Kobayashi is constantly striving to improve himself through voice training for speaking engagements and regular exercise.

HIROSHI YUGETA

HIROSHI YUGETA

From an early age, Hiroshi Yugeta wanted to become an attorney at law with the aim of eradicating organized crime and civil intervention violence.

He was involved in intellectual property litigations from his first year, and has since then, been involved in a wide variety of intellectual property cases including patents, trademarks, design rights, copyrights and unfair competition.In addition to representing parties in lawsuits and negotiations, as a specialist in intellectual property rights he also serves in various decision-making positions; as an expert committee member of Tokyo Customs, as an examination committee member of the Japan Patent Office, and as an intellectual property faculty member of the Law School. He has also been working as a committee member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association’s civil intervention violence prevention program.

In addition, Mr. Yugeta has handled numerous bankruptcy cases as a trustee appointed by the Tokyo District Court and based on these experiences, has been able to devise appropriate strategies to deal with the financial difficulties of his clients’ business partners, even in times of emergency.

Mr. Yugeta firmly believes that the attorney who merely presents the usual options is not one capable of meeting the clients’ needs. By utilizing his vast experience and knowledge, thinking outside the box and seeking creative solutions, Mr. Yugeta aims to always meet the needs of clients and resolve cases with utmost satisfaction.

Kodai Kimura has focused on intellectual property from day one of his career, and currently works with a large number of contracts, legal advice and disputes in the fine art and music industries based on his experience at Universal Music LLC, as well as IP litigations.

He also handles the drafting and review of English-language contracts based on his experience of having studied in New York and having worked in Singapore as a foreign legal adviser. He provides foreign clients with legal opinions in English involving complex regulations under Japanese laws.

In the field of Art Law, Mr. Kimura advises artists, art galleries, art related start-ups, curators, art consultants, collectors, public art consulting firms and various companies involved in art projects, and has contributed articles to reputable media outlets such as Bijutsutecho, Kohkoku (Hakuhodo), and Forbes JAPAN, under the slogan “Toward establishing Art Law in Japan”.

Yasuhiro Kawabe has handled a large number of intellectual property disputes, mainly litigations, since his admission as an attorney at law. His past cases include unusual types of litigation such as requests for registration of patent transfers and defense of abuse of rights based on violation of antitrust laws, JP domain dispute cases, and patent seizure cases.

Believing that IP litigation needs to be advanced in order to promote IP, and that in order to do so, IP attorneys need to be more readily accessible, Mr. Kawabe actively engages in activities to promote interaction among the entire IP industry by hosting study sessions and social gatherings with patent attorneys who are experts in IP.

Kota Fujinuma has handled a wide range of cases including intellectual property litigations such as patents, trademarks, unfair competition, design rights and copyrights, as well as provisional injunction enforcements based on patent infringements.

He has also served as an external auditor of a start-up company and as a council member and auditor of general incorporated associations, and has extensive experience in cases involving corporate and labor issues unique to start-ups, as well as cases relating to the resolution of social issues such as SDGs.

As a member of the rugby club in high school and college, Mr. Fujinuma is still very active and enjoys a more hands-on approach to his work where products are involved and meeting clients face to face.

Mr. Fujinuma’s hobbies include watching sports and training, and he has recently developed an interest in bodybuilding.

Hideto Kanda has been consistently involved in intellectual property law fields and has already represented clients in more than 40 IP litigation cases since he registered as an attorney at law. Especially in patent disputes, he tries to unravel the technical details as plainly as possible from the perspective that is not biased toward any particular field and to persuasively convey clients’ arguments to the judge.

After majoring in electrical and electronic engineering at the School of Engineering, Shinji Hirata worked as a patent examiner at the Japan Patent Office for about 10 years, examining more than 3,000 patent applications in the mechanical and electrical technical fields (home appliances, automobiles, industrial machinery, etc.).

After registering as an attorney at law, he has been involved in numerous legal matters related to intellectual property, including patent litigations, invalidation trials, and trial decision revocations for domestic and foreign clients in a wide range of technical fields (work equipment, automotive equipment, home appliances, electronics, industrial machinery, etc.). His technical background and experience at the Japan Patent Office allow him to provide sophisticated prior art search services.

Mr. Hirata supports clients’ businesses as an expert in all aspects of intellectual property and handles a wide range of matters from day-to-day legal issues to complex disputes.
